Aberdare Park Primary is a very healthy and active school. We are currently working hard to achieve the Healthy School’s Award and our current topic is healthy eating and fitness.
All our children eat healthy snacks during break times and drink milk (in foundation phase) or water if they are thirsty. Unhealthy snacks or fizzy drinks are not allowed.
Children learn about the eatwell plate and the food that our body needs to be healthy and learn about how exercise affects the body in PE and science lessons.
We have many sporting activities for children to enjoy during play time and lunch time, such as skipping, hula-hoops, throwing and catching games, football, basketball and climbing apparatus.
We have a carefully planned PE curriculum and many after school clubs which are run by our fantastic staff, such as; fitness club, dance club, football club, netball club and summer sports club.
We also have many sports teams and enter lots of sports competitions throughout the school year. Children can work towards representing the school in a range of teams:
- cross country
Our sports teams have fantastic kits which have been sponsored by businesses who have links to the school and our children love wearing them.
Our rugby team are doing a sponsored walk up Pen-Y-Fan to help pay for their new jerseys.
Our teams have been very successful over the past years, we have had children make it to the cross country finals in Cardiff, our girls football team have won a trophy, our A team went a full season unbeaten, won many cups and shields including the Roffi Cup this year!
We have many pupils who take part in sport outside of school too, such as kick boxing, swimming and free running, to name a few; we are very proud to have such talented pupils, which include some world champions who represent Wales and compete all around the world!
We believe being a healthy school is very important and are very proud of all our active pupils.
